Labyrinth Dreams by Bethan Laura Wood, London Design Festival

For the debut of the Purple 14p, Bocci invited British designer Bethan Laura Wood to create Labyrinth Dreams, an installation exploring colour, light, memory and association.
The collaboration began with Wood’s first encounter with the purple 14p, which immediately brought to mind David Bowie in Labyrinth. She nicknamed the light the “Bowie Ball”, an association that became the starting point for a sculptural landscape of colourful totems and playful arrangements of the 14p.

“I’m interested in making objects that are grounded in experimentation and material investigation but also connect with contemporary living,” says Wood. With Labyrinth Dreams, she “hoped to create an interesting fantasy, where the protagonist is the 14p.”

Hand-cast in Alexandrite glass, the Purple 14p shifts between lilac, pink, blue and smoky tones as the surrounding light changes. Within Wood’s installation, these shifting colours become part of an environment in continual flux, bringing together her fascination with colour and memory with Bocci’s exploration of material and light.
