STORY / PROJECTS / Peripheral Blur

Peripheral Blur

Peripheral Blur is a visual notebook from Valentina Cameranesi Sgroi's summer visit to Vancouver, where she spent time at the Bocci studio and glass shop and moved through the city gathering impressions on a mini DV recorder. The cassette format does something to the image, flattening it, pulling it toward textile, toward screenprint. Light pools. Surfaces behave.

The footage was sequenced not chronologically but by affinity. Reflection next to reflection. The way molten glass and still water share a logic. Less a document than a set of observations, held together by texture and a quality of movement that runs through all of it.

Unexpected Guests

Presented at the Bocci Milan Apartment during Milan Design Week 2024, Unexpected Guests brought twelve commissioned borosilicate glass objects into the domestic interior. Drawing from a vocabulary of marine organisms, botanical forms, and biological structures, the works sit between the ornamental and the unsettling, inhabiting the space as strange presences rather than decorative pieces.
