Bocci x Pilgrimme
At pilgrimme on Galiano Island, British Columbia, owner and chef Jesse McCleery combines seasonal provisions from select local farmers and producers with ingredients he forages from ocean, meadow, and forest. The dishes on his tasting menu derive not from intended recipes but instead from serendipitous moments in his ongoing exploration of culinary possibility.
Eager to create an ambiance that reflected this commitment to material and process, he turned to Bocci. How to inform the room with nuanced, ever-changing illumination that varied with the seasons and captured the fairy-tale quality of the setting? Could lighting applications be arrayed in such a way as to enhance his unique approach in the kitchen?
Bocci's design team used 44, 73V, and 73t to create sculptural accents and misty, cloud-like formations—a subtle, engaging interplay between natural and artificial light. By drawing the island’s essence indoors, the team found a visual serenity that allows diners to more fully enjoy the similar magic Jesse performs on their plates.
